This was a year of great joy and great sorrow. I sit here thanking God for my good fortune and at the same time asking him why for all the things out of our control. Our family suffered two great losses this year. Brian Allen and Paul Cantoni will forever live in our hearts and minds. Our state lost twenty-seven innocent people, as did other states experience cruel acts of violence. Today, at 9:30 am EST we took a moment of silence to remember all the victims of senseless violence.
After years of work I saw my first book published. If I Fail, A Jake Carrington Mystery continues to do well. And I’m days away from having my second book published, As the World Ends. Thank you to all who have read it.
There has been talk that today December 21, 2012 is the end of the world.
I don’t know about you, but life as I’ve known it has changed forever. The loss of beautiful, innocent children and adults has pushed us all over the edge. In my heart I’m trying to keep the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our dear Lord. Yet, at the same time, that very heart is breaking.
How do we heal and move forward? What is it we as a nation must do to heal? I don’t think it is any one thing or law. I think we need to address many issues. The first is being overlooked because it cost money—treatment for the mentally ill needs to be revamped.
I don’t think changing our constitution is the answer. As the slogan goes, then only the criminals will be armed. I think reasonable laws on gun control should include stricter background checks for those purchasing a weapon, plus a time delay in receiving those weapons; along with a ban on assault weapons. They were designed for war not for hobbyist.
This year I have been blessed to meet so many new people, both online and in person at various events, conferences and book signings. I look forward to expanding my appearances in the new year and to connecting with you. With that in mind, I hope you can fill your hearts and minds with the meaning and spirit of this Holiday season. Merry Christmas and have a Happy, healthy, and safe New Year!
Best wishes to you all,
