Curio Creations From A Writer’s Curious Mind

“Many novelty minds dare to create. It is with hope that they push forth with the aspiration that their true uniqueness will be recognized.”

~Eri Nelson~

Life is supposed to be simpler when your children grow and move on from traditional required learning to the more sophistication of an independent education. However, when goals set aside for eighteen years have been itching to come alive then uncomplicated can be the furthest from any empty nester’s mind. At the age of forty, I had built a brief lifetime of short stories. This for the longest time was all I thought I was capable of. Nevertheless as my daughter began to take roads untraveled so did I. The hidden curves of a lengthy travel set me on a course to my first forty thousand-word novel and a more solid journey to a short fast-paced adult series. This series would soon surpass my first try at a novel and move on to be my first published work of books…….

Hi, my name is Eri Nelson. I am an indie author who manages all areas of her fiction, fantasy, paranormal, action, adventure and sometimes-erotic writing or as I prefer to call my work…Dark Primal Paranormal Adult Fantasies. It is also my great privilege to be the creator of an online magazine titled Supporting Authors One Read At A Time, http://www.wonderfulreadofthemonth.blogspot.com/, that is coming to its magazine’s end this April 2013. Thanks to Marian Lanouette and her wonderful invite, I find myself among you today. Although my voyage as an author has only just begun within the last few years, I am delighted to be able to share it with you all.

As I said above short stories for the longest period was all assumed I was capable of. However, as time passed so did this notion. My first novella came with just a mere idea that rode the back of a mythology premise and took me roughly three months to write. Although Destiny Repeats Twice was, my first book to write it was not the first to be published. That scary venture came about with my first in the DHC series, Dearhart Clan, The Call From Within. This first in print book started with a call out from a publisher looking for a collection of fifteen thousand word shorts to be placed under one cover. Due to the fact that my writing style is untraditional, it was turned down. Although the book was rejected, it started a premise one that ultimately would lead to four books under one eventual cover as well as a follow up series titled INK.

“The Dearhart Clan Series are short fast paced adult reads that gain in length but not their discounted  price, until the bitter end”. This statement has been the basis of my short read series. The simple foundation of the short series that gains in length is but an introduction to me as an author.

Dearhart Clan is a series of fast-paced adult books that dabble in the world of paranormal and remain in the erotic pulse of what can only be classified as a primal fantasy. If it is a typical romance you are looking for you will not find it in this series.

Eri Nelson writes in a darker world where heat and need are the forefront for a slipping existence. There is not time for all the tenderness love deserves but if you are imprinted to another, you are far beyond those mortal requirements.

Our author is driven by swift action packed intrigues that often leave you wanting more. As she writes, each new book into the series the number of pages might increase but the action never lets you feel the increasing distance to the final page.

The Call From Within being my first to publish started the introduction to the DHC series as a paperback. Although, it was only a fifteen-thousand-word book it was still my first and felt as if it were a true accomplishment. It was not until later that I branched out to an eBook. In some minds, paperback might be a dying breed. However, for me I would prefer the binding between my hands than it’s often more inexpensive counterparts, the eBook. On the other hand, the demand for a fifteen-thousand-word paperback is not high (lol). In hindsight, it was concluded that I would wait on introducing the Dearhart Clan Series once again to paperback until the fourth and final book. This final version would be placed under one cover jacket along with the prior three and hopefully would be around a hundred-thousand-word book. Albeit, this plan did not fully come forward since I was still receiving request for the paperbacks. Therefore, with a gleeful heart I continued onward with making paperbacks available to all my books.

Paperback verses eBook, which would you prefer to read? As an author, I like to keep eBooks at a light fee since in my mind they are not as tangible as say a book in binding form. Course it would seem that in some cases the cost of an eBook would be same as the paperback version. I have often bought the cheaper eBooks as a tester then if the appeal was there for me, moved on to the more touchable adaptation. In actuality, this had more to do with the discounted price of eBooks in comparison to their physical twins. Yet that is harder for me to rationalize when eBooks are the same cost as a paperback. How do you feel about eBooks? Do they sway your opinion of them when they cost as much as a book in binding?

As The Call From Within moved inside the flow of its eBook as well as paperback sales, I often thought there must be a collective way to help other authors as well as my own personal interest. This thinking resulted in a magazine-celebrating authors. The premise was simple… a free network of authors who would jointly submit articles, short stories, blurbs, ads, helpful ideas to writing, poems, quotes, and pretty much anything to do with writing for a free to read magazine. Then once a month those authors would post the embedded code to the magazine within their own individual blogs. Just once a month and at their discretion as to when, helps promote all the authors within the network who contribute.

Even those authors who do not have a blog can participate by simply posting to twitter, Facebook, or any other social media just once a month the magazines link.

Writing is a passion and a drive I wish to share with everyone. Therefore, it is a foregone conclusion that a network of authors such as our magazine would be a heaven sent interest for me. Although my own approach to writing is unusual in comparison to some, this difference coerces me to dabble in worlds with other authors aboard. As we sail on our optimistic voyage to readers, we hope to entertain and inform as well as hopefully strike readers interest into our own work as writers.

With the magazine coming to an end, we are still hoping to work collectively as a group where we contribute to each other as authors. As April reaches closer in our days, we are becoming more excited about Video Book Tours. Which is another outlet for our “Supporting Authors One Read At A Time” network. However, it is not only the tours…. It is our passion to help our fellow authors that keeps our site, Facebook page, and Facebook group alive as well as thriving with ideas.
